The Benefits Of Memory Foam Pillows

benefits-memory-foamChoosing the right pillow is widely cited as one of the most important ways to get a great night’s sleep and it’s a well known fact that if you choose one which is uncomfortable and which doesn’t properly support you, you’ll struggle to sleep well. Getting a poor night’s sleep can have an impact on your performance at work as well as your overall health and, as such, we’re here to help you choose the perfect pillow for you.

Memory foam pillows are one of the most popular types of pillow on the market at the moment and, whilst not right for everyone, we wanted to outline to you the benefits.

What Is Memory Foam?
Memory foam was first designed by NASA back in the mid-1960’s for use in airplane seats and is made from a material called viscoelastic, being highly energy absorbent and soft. As such, given that the material also moulds to the body (or head) in response to pressure or heat makes it the perfect material for pillows and, over recent years, has become popular amongst many different types of sleeper.

Who Is It For?
Whilst memory foam isn’t the most comfortable or most suitable type of pillow for everyone, if you’re a side or a back sleeper, it’s generally regarded as one of the best options. If you’re a front sleeper, however, you’ll be better off with a down or low-fill synthetic pillow and are best giving memory foam a miss. In general, however, if you sleep on your side or your back, there’s every chance you’ll find them the most comfortable option available.

Looking at just a few of the main benefits of memory foam pillows, we see:

1. Flexibility
Memory foam is known for it’s flexibility and moulds itself into almost any shape. For use in pillows, this makes it perfect given that it moulds itself to the shape of your head (or body in the case of mattresses), giving you the exact level of support you need to get a good night’s sleep. Whilst many pillows will lose their shape after a couple of month’s, this isn’t the case with memory foam and you’ll still get the same great level of support after many months.

2. Temperature Sensitivity
Being a temperature sensitive material, memory foam adjusts it’s temperature dependent on your body temperature, meaning that when you’re cold, your pillow will help to warm you up and when you’re too warm, your pillow will help to cool you down. Temperature regulation is key to getting a good sleep and, as such, this is widely regarded as one of the most attractive properties of memory foam pillows.

3. Reduce Tossing & Turning
Memory foam pillows are known to help significantly reduce tossing and turning whilst you sleep, something which is known to cause disrupted sleep. If you suffer from too much tossing and turning during the night, it could well be the case that memory foam could help to control this.

Above all, memory foam pillows are regarded as some of the most comfortable pillows on the market and, if you’re a back sleeper or a side sleeper and haven’t yet tried them out, it’s something which you need to do in order to help enhance your overall quality of sleep each night!
