Perfecting Your Night Routine

how often replace pillowWe all know someone who looks fabulous first thing in the morning. Whether it’s another Mum you see each day doing the school run, or someone at the office, we all know someone who looks as if they got up at 4am to start getting ready to greet the world.

So what’s her secret? Chances are it’s nothing to do with getting up early, more likely, she has a finely tuned night routine. Yes, just a half hour night routine will do wonders for looking great the following morning. So what does a night routine include? Here’s our top tips for a night routine that will get you turning heads tomorrow.

Get Your Outfit Sorted

Do you leave the house feeling (and looking) like you wrapped yourself in sellotape and ran at your wardrobe? Leaving it till morning to choose your outfit for the day has never been a good idea. A little planning goes a long way to helping you look great the following day. Choose two outfits – one for if it turns out to be a fine day and one for if it’s not so nice in the morning. Move your chosen outfits over to one side of the wardrobe so that you don’t have to hunt for it in the morning. Don’t forget your accessories too – which shoes, bag and jewellery will you need? Find the accessories and get them ready to go for the morning.

Wash Away the Effects of Today

Whether you prefer to have a soak in the tub or an invigorating shower, make sure you take the time to wash away any makeup from today and in particular pay attention to your T-zone. Using a cleanser like Squeaky Clean Tea Tree Scrub from the body shop will help you clear your skin pores and clear up greasy skin.

Moisturise

Perhaps the best thing you can do to keep your skin looking good is to moisturise daily. Since you’re building a nightly routine here, moisturising is the perfect task to add into your new routine and there’s no better time to do it than when you step out of the shower.

Don’t get too hung up on which brand of moisturiser to use. You can spend a fortune on these products, but essentially they’re all as good as each other – many contain the same ingredients and only the fragrance differs. The most important thing about your moisturiser is that you use it – not how much it cost.

Get a Great Night’s Sleep

You’re already part way there to getting a great night’s sleep. Seriously, going to bed in the knowledge that you’ve already prepared what to wear for tomorrow and laid the foundations for looking great will help you get off to sleep in no time.

During our sleep our bodies carry out essential maintenance and our skin is included in that too. Try and sleep on your back if possible. Side sleeping presses your face into the pillow and may pull and stretch the skin.

One way to ensure that you get a great night’s sleep is to get into a bed that looks great – one that calls out for you to climb in between the sheets and get a relaxing sleep. If your current bedding isn’t doing this for you check out some of the stunning looking bedding sets here at Sleepy People.

Set Your Alarm

Ok, so we said at the top that girl that always looks great doesn’t get up at 4am to do so and we meant it too. That doesn’t mean that you can get up 10 mins before you need to leave the house and expect to look great. Our final tip for your night routine is to set your alarm so you have enough time to be able to apply your make-up and get dressed without having to rush.

And One More For The Morning

Ok so it’s not part of the night routine but why not start your day off the right way too. If you’re not in the habit of getting a breakfast, now’s the time to change. Getting a breakfast sets you up for the day. Keep it simple – a slice of toast and some Orange juice or a coffee is all it needs to get your metabolism fired up.
