Benefits of Memory Foam

There’s nothing better than sinking into a comfortable bed after a long day and getting a restful night’s sleep.

Memory Foam gives extra support to your body and helps keep your neck and spine straight; ideal for periods of sleep and perfect for a night’s sleep free from aches and pains.

History of Memory Foam

First designed in 1966 for NASA to improve the safety of their aircraft cushions during the take-off process, memory foam is made from a substance called viscoelastic, which is both highly energy absorbent and soft.  Memory foam is a high density material that moulds to the body in response to heat and pressure, which in turn distributes body weight around the surface of the material; therefore easing pressure on joints. It then returns to its original shape once you remove the pressure.

As well as providing protection against impacts, the material’s properties also make memory foam very comfortable. After being applied in NASA spacecraft it was then made its way into an array of other applications such as padding for helmets and shoes, prosthetics and seating pads for the severely disabled.

Today, memory foam is well known for its use in pillows, mattress pads, and mattresses, which come in different densities and depths.

Benefits of Memory Foam

Your body is well supported when you lie on memory foam, as the heat from your body softens the foam, which in turn supports your curves and joints of your body.

The different layers of memory foam within these products are usually a medium/firm density so it gives your spine and hips the support they need. It moulds around your body shape, which allows you to sink in to the mattress helping you to find the most relaxed and beneficial sleeping position.

Investing in memory foam can help you wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed and ready to take on the day ahead.  Memory foam has soothing qualities and orthopaedic benefits, which can help relax your muscles and your structure so that you fall asleep in a feeling of tranquillity.

Restful sleep is of course very important as it is suggested that the average person should sleep for around 6.5 to 7.5 hours every night to remain healthy. This is due to the fact that whilst we sleep, we go through various cycles and if these are disturbed, the disruption can lead on into the following day.
