7 Podcasts To Listen To, To Help Relax Before Bed

If you are one of those people who goes to bed with great intentions, only to lie awake feeling frustrated as your mind races and you just think about how if you get to sleep right this very second, you’ll get 6 hours and 23 minutes of sleep, you are probably looking for something new to try to help you get to sleep at night.

There are lots of things you can do to help yourself fall asleep, but one of our favourite methods is listening to a podcast. When reading, at some point you have to put your book away and switch off the light… and if you really struggle with insomnia, this can be enough to wake you up and let your mind snap back to the things you didn’t tick off your to-do list today. With a podcast, you can simply let it end, hopefully once you’re already in dreamland. Plus, there’s just something about listening to people speak that is really soothing, isn’t there?

Whether you need funny stories to take your mind off your worries, guided meditation to help you relax, or want to use the time before you sleep to learn something useful or interesting, there’s a podcast for you. Here are seven of our favourites!

Radio Headspace

If you’re keen to become more mindful, then Radio Headspace is the podcast for you. Exploring topics such as meditation, memory, connecting with one another, creativity and many other subjects, this podcast is great to listen to before you go to sleep.

Meditation Minis

For something to listen to that is short and sweet, but will definitely help you to fall asleep, as well as calming anxiety, promoting positive thinking, and increasing your confidence, check out Meditation Minis. These mini podcasts are 10-15 minutes long, and present meditation techniques from a variety of different sources. These are also from a non-religious point of view, so should appeal to just about anybody.

Sleep With Me Podcast

A podcast that is designed to do exactly what it says on the tin - send you off to sleep. It describes itself as “a lulling, droning, boring bedtime story to distract your racing mind”, which sounds absolutely ideal if you are trying to quieten your inner monologue.

Tell Me Something I Don’t Know

Part game show, part talk show, part brain teaser, this podcast invites audience members to present something that most people may not know to a panel of celebrities and experts, who then question the guest on the topic. You might learn something really cool! It’s definitely good ammo for the next time you find yourself stuck for something to talk about at a party.

TED Talks

Technology, Education, and Design - TED is a nonprofit organisation that spreads ideas, and if you’ve never seen or heard a TED talk before, you are in for an educational treat. Covering science, society, and much more, these podcasts will open your mind to new ideas, and really make you think.

Language Pod 101

When we sleep, we help to store memories, and this article from Lifehacker explains how if you learn something before a good night’s sleep, you are much more likely to be able to recall the information. So learning a language before bed is a great idea! Make productive use of the end of your day to learn a new skill.

Welcome To Night Vale

This science fiction podcast is presented as a radio show, for the fictional town of Night Vale. Join host Cecil Baldwin, who reports on the strange events that go on in this bizarre town. You may even have heard references to the show before, and wondered what on earth people were talking about, as the show has a cult following. What’s with the fake clocks, and the floating cats? Tune in, and find out.

We hope that this has given you some inspiration for podcasts to try out, and if you have any suggestions for great podcasts we need to check out, please leave a comment, as we are always looking for new things to unwind to here at Sleepy People!
