Mornings are difficult. Even if you’re a morning person, waking up, leaving your cosy bed, and trying to remember what it is that you have to do today can take a little while. But how is it that some people just seem to be able to get up and get out the door without getting in a flap?
One of the best ways to be successful, is to be prepared. Starting the day right will help to achieve the things you need to get done, and help you to reach our goals. But in order to have a smooth and successful morning, it helps to do some preparation the night before. The less you have to think about first thing, the less there is to go wrong!
We’ve had a think about some of the key ways you can prepare to make life a little easier, and here are our top 10 things you can do to in the evening to give you the best start to your day!
1. Write a list of the things you need to do tomorrow
Having a clear plan for your day will make you much more focused. Write down the things you need to achieve, and order them by priority. This way, not only are you less likely to forget to do something, you’ll also sleep better knowing you have made a note of what’s important.
2. Check the weather
Knowing the next day’s weather will help you decide what to wear, and will even help with things such as the route you may need to take to work, school or the gym, or whether you need to get up ten minutes earlier to defrost your car!
3. Plan and lay out your outfit
Rushing around looking for your socks or trying to choose what to wear wastes lots of time in the mornings. Prepare the night before by deciding what you’re going to wear, and laying out your clothes. Do you go to the gym before or after work? Prepare your workout clothes too, to save even more time!
4. Set the timer on your coffee maker
If you rely on a caffeine hit in the mornings, save yourself valuable minutes in the morning by setting it up in advance! Many coffee makers have a timer feature, allowing you to set everything up the night before and wake up to freshly brewed coffee! If yours doesn’t, you could just make sure you have freshly ground beans ready.
5. Prepare your breakfast
Breakfast so often gets skipped because we are rushing, but it really is the most important meal of the day. It gives us the energy we need to get through the morning, so make sure you have something ready to grab. Overnight oats are a great option, or even breakfast biscuits.
6. Prepare your lunch
Save yourself a huge amount of time by making your lunches either the night before, or at the start of the week. Batch cooking is also a great way to save money and avoid wasting food!
7. Pack your bag
Think about what you need to do tomorrow, and make sure you have a bag packed with everything you will need for the day ahead. You’re more likely to forget things in the morning when you’re groggy. If you have children, make sure that their school bags are packed too.
8. Tidy your house
Tidy your home in the evening, so that you can easily find everything you need the next day. Not only does clutter cause us to waste time searching for things, it also creates mental blocks which halt productivity.
9. Do something relaxing
Whether it’s meditation, reading a book, or practicing yoga, do something to help you wind down from the day. Never try to go to bed stressed out, as you won’t get good quality sleep and will be tired the next day. Even just ten minutes of meditation can help you to wind down.
10. Go to bed early
Getting enough rest is one of the most important things to make sure you have a good and productive day. Our attention, memory, and creativity all suffer when we are fatigued, so make sure you go to bed at the right time!
Like anything else, getting into the habit of doing these things every day will take time and perseverance, but it will definitely be worth it. Give some of these things a try, and see how much more smoothly your day goes!
